INTRODUCTION

In Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh is a world famous and big commercial center. The items produced here are mostly of modern household items. The perforated kind of carving is a speciality here. Usually done on small products but when desired to make big pieces, the small lattice frames are made then fitted together. Though wood is beautiful and part of our daily routine. Man has tried to accentuate certain of its qualities by decorating it in many ways. One medium is that of carving work. The carving is generally in low relief cut in geometrical patterns. Many floral designs are used. But in search of new design and concepts various beautiful items are prepared with mixing of different materials with wood. Fine wood carving is labor intensive craft that requires much practice and high- quality tools. We at Art House use traditional wood carving methods with different medium to give the products a contemporary form.
