Mughal Painting ~
The gardens of the Mughal court were filled with different types of flowers,
and these flowers were spilled over into paintings and textiles. A number of gardens were established in India by the first Mughal emperor Babur. In his historical writings he gave a description of an apple tree in autumn and, spring flowers in the foothills of
the Hindu Kush.
The Mughal textile designers borrowed these floral motifs from Persia and
Kashmir like crocus and iris.
These mughal paintings not only show different patterns and styles but also the interest and the moods of different weavers and their patrons like the great Mughal rulers like Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan.
