This tapestry, titled Dacait-II, belongs to the “DACAIT†series by Puja Bhakoo. Dacait, in Hindi, means bandit. The notorious and dreaded bandits from the famous Chambal ravines near Rajasthan, India, were a law unto themselves. The protagonist in the tapestry has vivid eyes that enunciate mystique as well as mutiny. The sandy undertones and earthy hues bring out the enigma of the golden sand dunes of Rajasthan. The portrait featured here was inspired by a painting ‘The Eyes of Thar,’ by Satish Gupta. It took approximately three months to create this hand-made tapestry.
