Srinibas Lenka
INTRODUCTION

The ever-changing hues of sky, the constant rush of clouds, the eternal chirping of birds, the silence of the roads, all this and more makes me forget where am I. Amidst this hide and seek the search for my very own existence is lost and found many times over again and again. Yes, it’s difficult to forget the known world yet it’s easy to get drown down into your very own thoughtful lane. Urban Street, the concrete jungle, a harbor town, flash of memory, unraveled thought, whatever it is but reveals a mysterious unknown voice that sounds very own. However hard I try to recreate the known landscapes of Gangtok, the scarlet Red sky of Kalimpong, the dense Green of Timi tea gardens, the flowing gold of Kanchendzonga at dawn, the mad rush of Seven Sister Water falls but my pallets can never recall the true colors of mother nature. I stand still and gaze my canvas for hours trying to paint an unknown landscape and elements of nature not inspired but of very own. I have seen so many landscapes through the eye of Van Gough, Turner and modern age painter Ramkumar, but my existence is established by My spread of colors. Necessity is the mother of invention and it reflects in the process of creation. So I select spatula in place of brushes. In my vision the rich stock of colors on spatula show an ingredient part of nature. When I stand in front of my paintings, colors play a virtual reality, from a distance they remind of my own land very known yet very different. Though as a cost accountant, the cost analysis of life’s account shows a debit of my forgone profession, lost somewhere in the nature in 1995.

Myriad colours pop out of his canvases. Some sink you into the corridors of thoughts, some trigger memories and the others with their rawness just hook you. Its the innate Indianness in Srinibass pictures that draws most of his patrons to it. A cost accountant by profession, painting was introduced to him by an artist friend who had seen Srinibass confident strokes on paper. Inspiration was all around him and painting became his love as early as 1994. A year later, he started out as a freelance painter. Soon he travelled down south to Chennai where he met Bhagwan Chauhan and K.M. Adimoolam at the Cholamandalam artist village. Thus began Srinibass journey as an artist. He went on to learn under late Jaspal Singh. Srinibas had begun with figurative works in acrylic on canvas.
