My artwork is hugely influenced and inspired by surrealism and art deco. They usually feature unusual juxtaposition of mundane objects and animals i am fond of. You will often find instances in my paintings that are non sequitur and bear elements of surprise. A close observation sometimes also brings in a sense of dialogue amidst the characters in the painting. A fashion designer by profession and a true art lover, I graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Hyderabad in May 2014. With my strong sense of fashion and innate understanding of art, I try to bring together the best of both worlds in my creations.
"The Atelier - Falguni Shankar" headed by me creates wacky bags and totes with tie and dye being the underpinning technique. I was enraptured by the vivid and abstract patterns created by this age old technique, which I learned during my fashion design course. I aim at reviving and implementing such indigenous techniques of art, albeit in a modern context.
