Satya - A brief biography:
I began painting watercolor landscapes in my childhood, but it wasn't until I saw some watercolor art in exhibitions and in magazines that I became drawn towards doing them myself.
I was born in a small village in Bijnor district in western Uttar Pradesh India. From my childhood, I was quite sensitive towards nature and was an observant pupil on the stage of nature’s studio. I may point out that my childhood memories consist of playing out in the open fields surrounded by sugarcane farms or yellow mustard fields during winter and the blue mountains of the north would offer the backdrop to my imagination. While I never had the opportunity to be guided by any painter – no one as far as I could remember was a painter in my village that time – I was aesthetically sensitive enough to be drawn towards pictures anywhere I could see depicting nature.
After schooling and graduation I entered the IT world as a web designer. Here too I had a scope to be connected to the realm of art and design. However, being rooted to nature, after witnessing many forms of artworks from books, magazines or the internet, I decided to continue with watercolours as a medium to explore my artistic sensibilities. By this time I got introduced to a painter friend and felt encouraged to try more of the same. Subjects that attract me would come from my childhood dreams, rural landscapes with idyllic surroundings, trees silhouetted against the blue mountains, cows grazing about the green fields and birds flying in the horizon. Beaches, flowers, birds and simple rustic motifs become my artistic oeuvre at present. I remain a simple and humble painter singing out the songs of nature as see it.
I am aware of the great developments and evolution that had undergone in the art world. But those are things that I do not comprehend as my vision is simple – I need to be reminded of my roots when I see a work of art. Not only that, I need to escape from industrial pollution – both literally and figuratively. It is also a wish to go back to those times when the world appeared more innocent to me and return to the times when there was a moon in the sky, a cuckoo bird singing at night, rivers were running with fishes and the white cranes dotting on the green fields……. those which I could not portray in colour I tried to imagine through my poems written through the eyes of a small boy bewildered by the world outside.
