Hi ! I am Alka , wife of an officer in the prestigious Indian Army. I am a self learnt Indian folk artist aspiring to become a Mithila artist . Currently I am doing 6 months professional certificate course in Mithila painting with the prestigious National Institute of Mithila Art , Darbhanga. I love mixing traditional patterns and motifs with modern elements in my paintings. I started Madhubani painting in 2009 as a means to meditative painting and as a way to deal with stress . I draw inspiration from mythology, Indian folk tales and day to day lives. Fish, trees and birds are the central characters in most of my paintings. I love exploring various techniques on a variety of media, from oil and acrylic paints on canvas, to pen and watercolour on paper. I enjoy practising various Indian art forms in Madhubani painting itself namely kachni, bharni and godna.
