Awards and Honours -- 2nd prize for miniature painting from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya in 1998 ; 3rd prize from V.V. Oak, Pune; Merit Award for Drawing from South Central Zone, Nagpur; Merit Award from Chitari Academy of Fine Arts, Pune; award from Bombay Art Society, Mumbai.
Umakant Kanade's artwork can be called a study in pure intricacy and a variety of shading techiques. His artwork creates a host of leaves, bark, roots and vines, each with its unique pattern and lighting. Fading produces a three dimensional effect, further adding to the realism in each painting.
