Lord Ganesha is seen sitting with a basket of fruits. It shows his love for fruits. Lord Ganesha is most pleased with offerings of red flowers hence the red hibiscus flowers at his feet. Another belief is that Lord Ganesha is able to go into nooks and corners of the world and do his job as the Destroyer of Obstacles because his vehicle is a mouse. And hence the mouse too at his feet.
