Triggered by a childhood memory, we decided to revisit the Russian matryoshka doll and Channapatna’s nested gombe set. It works just like the onion where if the outer layer is peeled off, a similar but smaller onion is revealed inside. And, our inspiration was complete! Aardra’s smart stacker comes with a box each to store potatoes, garlic and onions, of course. You can choose between the rectangular or round versions. When not in use, simply pack them inside each other and put away, for another day. Again, we’ve used hand-woven, organically-dyed fabric from Charaka. All aardra's products are handwoven using upcycled newspaper.

ABOUT Aardra
We call it aardra and that means new or fresh in Sanskrit. To us, it also means giving much-loved newspaper a long overdue makeover. It's about weaving used newspaper into products to carry around, take home and hold precious memories.
At aardra, we upcycle. So it's not turned into papier-mache or pulp. Instead, we make sure the newspaper can no longer absorb moisture. We then roll and manoeuvre tubes of the paper into clever patterns of warps and wefts, before priming and finishing. What you get is a product that not only looks good and strong but can also be immediately used.
